For nearly all vessel types Damen offers a broad range of services, including maintenance, spare parts delivery, training and the transfer of (shipbuilding) know-how. Damen also offers a variety of marine components, such as nozzles, rudders, anchors, anchor chains and steel works.

THE ROLE
As our Contract Manager you will be an integral part of the project team at both the pre-contract and execution phase of large and complex, shipbuilding projects. You will be actively involved from “cradle-to-grave” in bids and tenders at the prime and subcontract level with all relevant stakeholders.

You will be implementing prime & subcontract management procedures consistent with our company policies and guidelines. You provide operational support and contractual guidance to all project team members and you will oversee all legal administration of prime and subcontracts throughout the pre and post contract phases of the project.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Managing and overseeing all contractual aspects of procurement tenders processes and evaluations with the relevant stakeholders;
  • With the project team, identifying the contract baseline, including terms and conditions, specifications, drawings, estimates, proposals, schedules and other documents incorporated in the sub and prime contracts;
  • Participating in project related meetings, working closely with project functions to identify opportunities for revenue enhancement and/or schedule relief;
  • Preparing change orders to the Prime Contract and support/conduct negotiations;
  • Managing the handling of the prime and sub contract closeout requirements;
  • Coordinating the development and delivery of ongoing project commercial awareness training to address prime and sub contract management principles.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Education: A bachelor or Master degree in Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering, Construction Management or Cost Engineering or a similar field;
  • At least 10 years of demonstrable and thorough experience in contract law and the drafting of administration and negotiation of change orders, pricing, notices, effective correspondence, planning and scheduling in the shipbuilding and/or offshore EPC industry;
  • Working knowledge of engineering/construction industry contracting practices, applicable governmental and commercial regulations and practices and CMS policies, procedures and work practices;
  • Demonstrable exposure to the key contracting and commercial concepts in relation to contract and commercial risk management with specific emphasis on operational project execution activities in a commercial environment;
  • Extensive practical and working knowledge of contract changes and close out;
  • Extensive experience in preparation and monitoring of contracts;
  • Ability and willingness to travel abroad to support on-site project teams in assessing and/or validating entitlement and quantification and timely resolution of claims;
  • Experience with supervising personnel and managing a workload distribution and execution of the work;
  • Excellent professional communication skills in English and preferably Dutch;
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to work under pressure;
  • High level of customer-orientation.
