Our client is one of the world’s best known bookstores and newsagents, loved by millions of customers who shop in our shops in airports, train stations, hospitals and shopping malls around the world.

Their offices are located in Schiphol Airport, and have 3 shops in the Netherlands. Very flexible company about working from home.

We are now looking for an experienced buyer for our reading materials categories. This position will be responsible for promoting our offering in our Netherlands shops during an important period of strategic growth for the company.

  • Responsibility for the purchase of reading material for the categories books and news/magazines in our shops in the Netherlands.
  • Generate new ideas on how to increase sales, margins and revenue on an annual basis and meet annual budget targets.
  • Evaluate and continuously improve the product range through effective business analysis and building strong relationships with suppliers to deliver efficient and cost-effective plans.
  • Place stock orders based on demand forecasts and maximum stock requirements, liaising with the relevant London team where necessary.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and competitor activities in a fast-paced environment to help identify new opportunities and changes to our current offering.
  • Work closely with other departments of the business including operations, business development, marketing and the finance team.


  • Experience of the book buying cycle within a retail business and/or experience of account management. Knowledge of magazine news/markets is a plus.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about books – a passion for reading!
  • Exceptional analytical skills and the ability to use data to make business decisions, whether through new ranges, appropriate pricing and sales strategies, to deliver profitable ranges and drive annual growth.
  • The ability to present meaningful reports and to sift through information and details to get to the real issues.
  • A good command of Dutch and English in word and writing is essential.
  • Ability to manage accounts and experience of working with large and small vendors
  • Remaining calm under pressure and accustomed to a fast-paced working environment.
