Koni (an ITT company) was established back in 1857 in Oud Beijerland and has developed itself as the premier manufacturer of performance and adjustable shock absorbers in the world. KONI shocks are made from the highest quality raw materials and machined to the highest tolerances. KONI has taken shock absorber performance and comfort to the next level with patented FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) technology. Koni offers shock absorption technology for: Consumer Automotive, Railway, Defence, Recreational Vehicles, Bus, Truck and Trailer as well as Motorsports and Racing. Today, in Oud Beijerland (250 fte total) the corporate staff roles are situated and this includes Procurement.
To cope with the increasing challenges and demands of today, Koni is keen to expand its procurement department (currently 1 Sr buyer and 1 assistant) with a knowledgeable and inspirational Senior procurement professional.
About the role on offer.
As a Senior Buyer Indirect materials and services, you will become co-responsible for directing, organizing, and supporting work for the purchase of materials and services. Your category responsibility includes: tooling, machinery, components, capex, maintenance and some other NPR related services like facilities. The total annual spend (including direct categories, which are managed by your colleague Sr. buyer) to influence amounts to approx. €60 Mio. You will negotiate conditions and conclude framework contracts with key suppliers and align quality and quantity standards with business stakeholders. For the assigned categories you will conduct a procurement strategy year plan. You will follow the international supplier market, evaluate closely, and take actions when the market circumstances are changing. Above all it is of utmost importance that the security of supply is guaranteed at all times, thus, to ensure an uninterrupted production process. It goes without saying that next to buying against the best price and quality, a good and long-lasting relationships with key suppliers is of utmost importance to cope with the current challenging market circumstances.
Amongst others, your responsibilities include:
- Participate actively in other cross-functional teams and global projects.
- Monitoring of developments relating to the discipline and inform about relevant matters of managerial and strategic developments for the benefit of the preparation of the multi-year planning for the enterprise.
- Translating the established long-term policy to specific departmental plans, objectives, and budget.
- Periodic reporting to management about result, derogations and deviation causes formation for the benefit of the Plant Reviews by the parent company.
- Advising management regarding alternative suppliers, opportunities for outsourcing, continuous improvement of price/quality ratio, improvements in processes of the purchase chain etc.
- Visiting suppliers and maintaining relationship file.
- The conduct of contract negotiations including contracts for longer term or critical parts within asked authorization frameworks.
- Analysing data suppliers (e.g. quality and delivery reliability performance analysis a.o.), discuss with supplier concerned and, if necessary, proposals for improvement.
- Advising internal customers on goods delivered or desired regarding suppliers’ choice, delivery times and costs.
- Monitor progress, point of contact in case of problems (failure or stagnation), initiate corrective measures if necessary.
- Oversee compliance with the (administrative) procedures.
- Act as technical point of contact.
- In case of over or under allocation intervene in the process through timely corrective measures (e.g. measures of overtime, extra manpower, outsourcing etc.)
About your qualifications and the Koni requirements:
To be(come) successful in this new role Koni is looking for an experienced Senior buyer with a good track record in tactical and strategic international purchasing. A guideline is approx. 10 years of experience in technical related Procurement environments as a minimum. Affection for high quality engineered equipment and the automotive sector is a distinct plus. A combination of project procurement experience (for example Capex projects), combined with commodity experience in technical components categories, is ideal. In terms of competencies Koni is looking forward to hire candidates bringing; ownership, project management skills, eagerness to learn, deliver ongoing cost savings, team player, analytical and above all you are experienced in selling the added value of procurement to stakeholders. You are well organized, good in prioritizing and inspiring others, including the ability to influence up to C level management. The travel element amount to approx. 20% of your time.
Additional qualifications:
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree (Technical, Procurement or Supply Chain Management)
- Team player with strong negotiation skills, determination, and persuasive personality as well as distinct analytical competencies
- Experience in SAP, MS Office
- Excellent communication in English and German (Dutch is distinctive plus
About the package on offer:
Koni offers an interesting remuneration package (base up to € 100K) + bonus scheme. 27 holidays + 13 ADV. Partly hybrid working solution (4 days office/1 day from home) is possible and a company car is not included.
